Chandlers on State St.
Chandler’s driving school classes were upstairs over Premier Furniture on State St.
I remember watching the gross highway death movies at Country…Illinois state police films from 1960 or something along those lines. it was back when technicolor had a very vivid red blood color. that was 1992-3 I think
I am sure if you grew up in the 80’s, you have to remember Don’s Auto School located on the second floor of a buillding on Pleasant St. I think it is above Rick Bayko’s Running store. It was the cheaper alternative to Country. We drove around in a green Nova, and if Don was with you, he stopped for at least 3 cups of coffee during the hour lesson. He had a partner that liked to ride in the back seat with the girls while you were driving. Sort of a limo ride.
I believe that auto school was called Chandler’s originally in the 70’s.
Went to Country myself – at break time, some of the students used to get stoned and come back for a good laugh at the bloody films!
I remember taking Drivers Ed upstairs in the YMCA building on State St…before it burned down. Anyone remember that? I forget the company name. This was in the early 80’s.
