HO 53422. that was our Newburyport phone number for years. It was even a party line for a while. The “H O” stood for “Homestead”, then the rest of the number. West Newbury phone numbers started with “F O”, for “Forest”, followed by what ever the rest was. Back in the 60’s, the entire Commonwealth had just one area code, “617”. When the parents weren’t home we were free to make crank calls. “Hello, do you have pigs feet”? “No”? “Well keep your shoes on, no one will notice”…

Random Memory Quotes

“Mrs. Clark had for some reason “offed” her husband, ( obviously a “Mr. Clark”…), wrapped his lifeless body in heavy chains and other assorted weights and dumped him off the Rock’s Village bridge in West Newbury.”
